Scissor lifts are one of the safest high-reach platforms used in warehousing, retail, maintance, and construction projects. They elevate workers on an aerial platform supported by a crisscrossing “X” frame. Unlike boom lifts, scissor lifts only extend up and down, improving stability for jobs that require high vertical access. Compare quotes on scissors lifts for sale using IFT

Is a Scissor Lift Right For You?

Standard scissor lifts can reach between 6 – 12 metres. Where boom lifts are more focused on vertical height and outreach, scissor lifts are focused on increasing vertical weight capacities. They are built to lift multiple workers and bulk materials at the same time.

Scissor lift platforms come in narrow or wide options and with non-marking or rough-terrain tires, offering flexibility across a range of jobsites.

Key Features For Your Business:
  • High Vertical Reach: Standard scissor lifts can reach between 6 – 12 metres — 18 metres for some rough terrain models.

  • Heavy Weight Capacity: Their frame design supports higher load capacities of between 225 – 540+ kgs for standard models and 680 kgs for some heavy-duty models.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Versatility: Choose narrow, non-marking tires for indoor applications, and rough terrain tires with 4WD and stabilizers for uneven job sites outdoors.
  • Increased Stability: The crisscross lift foundation improves stability and supports heavier loads when platforms are raised.

  • Higher Productivity & Safety: Can do the work of multiple ladders and scaffolds while keeping workers safer.

How Much Do Scissor Lifts Cost?

Scissor lifts come in 2 main power types: diesel and electric. Diesel units are fueled by gasoline and are built to operate outdoors. The starting price for diesel models is about 40 – 60% higher than electric models because they extend to higher elevations and can be used outdoors.

The most expensive diesel models are built for rough terrains. They come equipped with 4WD, large pnuematic tires, stabilizer jacks, and more, improving their stability on mud, gravel, and sloped jobsites. The upfront costs for rough terrains are only slightly higher than regular diesel models, so the added flexibility could worth the investment.

Some brands also offer hybrid fuel types, which have the ability to operate using battery power and diesel gas. These duel-fuel models are the most expensive, but they make sense for businesses who want to operate indoors and outdoors without switching machines.

Scissor Lift FAQs
What industries use scissor lifts?

Scissor lifts are used by multiple Canadian industries, such as warehousing, retail, construction, and manufacturing.

How much does a scissor lift cost in Canada?

Scissor lifts are some of the most affordable equipment. In Canada, new models cost between $20,000  - $45,000, while used models range from $8,000 to $22,000. Prices can vary based on power types and if they're built with rough terrain capabilities.

Can scissor lifts lift more than boom lifts?

Yes, scissor lifts are designed to lift heavier loads than boom lifts. Scissor lifts only elevate platforms up and down, while boom lifts can move platforms upward and outward. This vertical-only movement adds greater stability and increases the weight capacity.
